Kate Hamilton-Hunter - The Contemporary Design Company

Kate Hamilton-Hunter & Nia Roberts are the founders and creative energy behind The Contemporary Design Company. They have built up a very close working relationship from tutor/student to business partners over the last 6 years. Kate is the jewellery and metal designer, with a passion for old biscuit tins and Nia the contemporary artist with a love of texture and colour.

All their canvases and framed work are painted with eco-paints, chalk-based paints that do not harm the environment. Kate’s passion for old biscuit tins has grown from working in aluminium, copper and brass on a textiles course eight years ago, to recycling biscuit, sweet and toffee tins to create a unique range of jewellery and to fashion hearts, boats and vases to complement Nia’s artwork. Kate’s jewellery is proving to be very sought-after all over the UK and beyond. The contemporary style mixed with the use of recycled metals is getting many customers collecting pieces from all four ranges.

Kate & Nia both feel very lucky to live in this beautiful part of the UK. North Wales has mountains and moors, coast and beaches, gorgeous evening skies and seasonal colours. Nia’s own art range is inspired by the landscapes of North Wales, and named after her favourite places. She also has a commission-only range of beautiful canvases called ‘Tell Your Story’. She takes family photos and papers, maps and hymn sheets and transforms them into an original work of contemporary art.
