Helen Job - abstract landscape artist

Helen JobHelen Job’s work cover a range of interests from abstract paintings about the history of the Venetian Republic to figurative and semi figurative landscapes and fine, detailed drawings of objects found in the landscape.

Helen tends not to exhibit very often due partly to family pressures and partly from natural inclination. She has a dislike of her personality getting in the way of her work and prefers people to look at her paintings and make their own response to them. She supplies a small amount of background information on the work she exhibits, which will touch on the scholarship behind them or give an idea of the source from which they come.

The making of the Venetian work is usually triggered by something she has read about the history of Venice. The city of Venice, a fragile, almost ghostlike presence was once the seat of a robust, aggressive and acquisitive state ruled by a Doge and council. The Doge’s personal power was curbed by checks and balances through the legislative body and his position was that of an elected leader. This remarkably successful regime lasted 1,100 years without revolution or major disruption from within for the whole of that time.

The landscape paintings are a response to Helen’s home environment. She is lucky enough to live within a designated area of outstanding natural beauty which is the Clwydian Range in North Wales. These paintings are intended to convey the atmosphere of the landscape. She is currently embarking on a series of paintings and detailed drawings of natural objects found within that environment. “As we walk through the landscape we take in the general atmosphere but may scrutinize the particular.” Helen wants to reflect this activity in her work.
