This trout is in a slow, weedy part of the river. It’s food is usually flies and crustations. It has spotted a very young salmon (parr) which it attempted to catch and eat. However, the parr managed to escape.

This is a male (cock) salmon in it’s spawning colours. Salmon enter the rivers from the sea in colours of silvery blue and grey. As autumn approaches, the salmon then changes from these silvery tones to reds and browns with a pronounced hook (kype) in the lower jaw. These changes help to attract the females at spawning time

These male and female newts are engaged in a courtship dance under some surface water plants
Great Crested Newt is Britain’s largest (and protected) newt.

Neil Dalrymple's garden pond has been his main inspiration for these sculptures. Here Neil gets first hand information from the frogs, toads, newts, fish and other inhabitants of the pond such as Dragonfly larvae. His amphibian ceramic sculptures have been exhibited at the Society of Wild Life Artists (SWLA) Mall Gallery, The Mall London UK. His sculptures have also been shown at Slimbridge Wild Fowl and Wetland Trust in Gloucestershire. Neil creates sculptures to be as colourful as in nature by using stoneware underglaze stains to enhance the final work.
